Joan Didion's daughter was placed in a drug induced coma when she came down suddenly with septic shock. Days later, the night before New Year's Eve, her husband died suddenly of a heart attack. This book is the story of Joan trying to pick up the pieces of her own life and still be there for her critically ill daughter. A stirring read.
