Beast is by Donna Jo Napoli. A retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast tale from the point of view of the beast instead of Belle. Orasmyn is a young Persian prince who runs afoul of a fairy during the Feast of Sacrifice. He goes to sleep and awakens as a lion and then struggles to stay alive and find a way to break the curse. This is a powerful story of a young man trying to keep his human soul alive in the body of a lion. A great read for boys and girls. A good twist on a classic tale.
Ratings: 8th grade - 10 out of 10.
