The Water Mirror is by Kai Meyer. This is the first book in The Dark Reflections trilogy. A unique and very different fantasy. Merle is an orphan with a magic mirror. She is apprenticed to a mirror maker. She meets a boy named Serafin, who was once a master thief, but is now apprenticed to a weaver of magic cloth. Venice is under siege by the Egyptians and their army of mummies, all that protects the city is the Flowing Queen. When Merle and Serafin uncover a plot to kidnap the Flowing Queen they decide they must save her and protect Venice, even if it means releasing the Ancient Traitor.
